Biography of APTLD new Board member — Prof. Gihan Dias (.lk)


Prof. Dias graduated from the University of Moratuwa in 1985 and was awarded a doctorate in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Davis in 1992.

In addition to being a the Domain Registrar and CEO of the LK Domain Registry, he is also a Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Moratuwa.

He has initiated several new services, including TechCERT – Sri Lanka’s first and foremost computer security readiness team, Lanka Certify – a certification authority, IDNs, DNSsec, Personal Domain Names, VerifiedWeb, etc.

He has assisted many public and private organisations to build, secure, and make best use of their computer systems. He was inducted to the Internet Hall of Fame in 2013.

As an APTLD board member, Prof. Dias will work with the ccTLD community in Asia to face the challenges of the 21st century.


Active Surveys


ccTLDs and National Legislation – The survey aims to find out how
the ccTLDs relate to their national governments in respect to
legislation (if any) and interaction with government authorities. Other
regional organisations (CENTR, LACTLD) are running the same
survey and thanks to a data sharing arrangement some of the non-
sensitive data will be aggregated, shared and included in a report
which will be published after all data has been collected and analysed.
