Verisign Reports 10 Percent Year-Over-Year Revenue Growth in 2013
Introduction of .ae and Mohammad Al Zarooni
The .aeDA was established in 2007 by the TRA as a department. It is the Regulatory Body and Registry Operator for the .ae domain name. The .aeDA is responsible for the setting and enforcement of all policies with regard to the operation of the .ae ccTLD as well as overseeing the operation of the Registry System.
The .aeDA’s role is to:
l Develop and execute policy
l Grow, develop and market the .ae namespace
l Accredit and manage .ae Registrars
l Educate the public, delivering and promoting the .ae domain name
l Facilitate the .ae Dispute Resolution Policy
l Represent .ae at International Forums
As the .aeDA has been formed by the TRA, a federal government department, the .aeDA will continually strive to maintain best practice for the administration of the .ae ccTLD and will administer the .ae domain in a fair and transparent manner.
Mohammad Al Zarooni
From Geek to Administrator, Mohammad Al Zarooni has spent most of his career in the Internet and Telecommunication sector in the UAE. At the Middle-East DNS Forum in Dubai, Mohammad provides a crisp and clear role for a ccTLD in a community:
l Developing a fair and sound ccTLD policy through a rational policy development framework and engaging the stakeholder in decision making if possible.
l Ensuring a robust and resilient registry and DNS infrastructure.
l Allowing competition and create business opportunity to local companies (registrars) and engaging them in any domain name related activities.
l Marketing and spreading the awareness of the benefit of using the ccTLD.
l Social responsibilities commitment such (offer technical training to registrants, funding young entrepreneurs and startups).
l Coping with the domain name industry trends and developments (e.g. DNSSEC, IDN …etc).
Mohammad and the team at TRA have steered the .ae and .اماراتdomain names to serve its communities – and they have been rewarded with very strong growth, not just in its domain names, but in the adoption of ICT in the UAE.
