Happy Lunar New Year, everyone, and today,  en route to the 25th anniversary of APTLD, we present our next Ordinary Member, namely the .AZ registry.
Managed by AZNIC and sponsored InTrans company domiciled in the capital city of Baku, Azerbaijan, .AZ has been in operation since August 1993, so it will turn 30 y.o. this year.
Interesting facts about .AZ:
-From the onset it has not ever changed the CEO, and ФФаик Фармановhas spearheaded its operations.
– Faik also pioneered the newly created zone by registering the first domain in .AZ
– .AZ registration rules allow registering both second-level domains and some third-level ones under the following categories:
com.az
net.az
int.az
gov.az
org.az
edu.az
info.az
pp.az
mil.az
name.az
pro.az
biz.az
co.az
– In 2012, InTrans company, together with the Government of Azerbaijan and other local stakeholders, co-hosted the global IGF in Baku.

In the run-up to our 25th anniversary, we  we are proud to present auDA,  a for-purpose organisation that works with a range of stakeholders including industry, government and the Australian and international community to develop and administer the rules for domains in the .au country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD).
The .au is part of Australia’s critical infrastructure and auDA has been endorsed by the Commonwealth Government to ensure it is a safe, accessible and trusted Australian public asset for all Internet users.
auDA also represents Australia’s interests internationally at APTLD, ICANN and other I* organizations.
Interesting facts about auDA:
– auDA was established in 1997 and originally went by Australian Domain Name Administration (ADNA) before being renamed to auDA in 1999.
– In 2018, .au registry operator Identity Digital Australia (then known as Afilias Australia) won a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest migration of an internet top-level domain registry – migrating 3.1 million .au domain names from the previous registry operator.
– In 2021, auDA supported $600,000 in grants from the auDA Foundation to build digital inclusion, improve cyber security for small businesses and increase internet access for young Australians through the work of 15 grant recipients.
– With more than 4m registrations, it is a market leader in the Australasia and Oceania subregion;
– It is a membership-based organization: auDA’s 5,000 members are a vital part of the auDA community, reflecting the Australian public, who it serves. It hosts regular webinars and networking events for its members. Members also have an opportunity to have a say in the future of .au, as well as access to insights on Australia’s tech sector and exclusive offers from auDA’s partner network.
– auDA had two of its officers serve at different times on the ICANN Board.

In the lead-up to the 25th anniversary of APTLD, we are proud to present our next Ordinary Member .ASNIC (.AS)
ASNIC
While its homepage is more than laconic, ASNIC’s CEO Stepher Deerhake is well known and enjoys a great respect in the Internet community for being probably a record holder in terms of his association with the ICANN community and by the number of working groups and other roles played both at ICANN, ccNSO and APTLD.
When you need to get things done, you know whom to call, right?

Happy 27th anniversary of the Mongolian Internet from Datacom LLC | Датаком ХХК!

HKIRC: phishing is a VERY costly thing. link

And here is again our new entry to the Meet APTLD Members  topic for you. This time, we introduce AFgNIC:
The Afghanistan Network Information Center is a department under Information Systems Security Directorate, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. AFGNIC also performs activities for the public, such as oversee the administration of IP address assignment /Registration in Afghanistan through coordination with National Internet Registry of Afghanistan (NIRA)
AFGNIC plays a vital role in the development of Internet infrastructure in Afghanistan by conducting workshops/seminars in different parts of country with the help of National and International experts in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
AFGNIC actively operates a service in which Internet users in Afghanistan can easily participate by making it possible for individual / organizations with preferences in Afghanistan to register domain names.
An interesting fact: on its Homepage, AfgNIC has posted an enigmatic text in Latin (!), whose somewhat mysterious wording literally holds:
“You must do the duties of the things, all the time. It is very important for the customer to pay attention to the coaching process. Debts are bound to fulfill the duties of things, the times to do the labors, because the elders and the like fall from that fault, but it is hard to bear them from, for anyone, right? Accusers, that is the difference! It is very important for the customer to pay attention to the coaching process. He who has never chosen with great hatred, which no one will have any heart to receive, loves those who praise him with the distinction of trouble, and he receives them even harsher. Everyone, that’s it! It is very important for the customer to pay attention to the coaching process. I will explain the pain of one not often falling into pleasure, the pleasure we want is bound to endure, please reason from the need to refuse praise and reject it”.
We are sure that experts will be racking his brains to discern this secret message:)

Hail to the Chefs!
During the 2023 Board Election nomination period, a total of 4 valid nominations were received.
As stated in the 2023 APTLD Board Election Schedule, “If no more than 4 candidates are nominated, these candidates will automatically fill in the two-year Board positions without voting. Therefore, we are glad to announce that the following candidates are going to take office at the 2023 AGM on 22 Feb 2022.
They are (in the alphabetic order of ccTLD):
(.CN)  Hongtao Li
(.IN)   Rajiv Kumar
(.KR)  Boyoung Kim!
(.TW)  Ai-chin Lu
For brief bios of electees, please refer to an introduction at https://aptld.org/documents/other-documents/18534/.
Congratulations to the new Board Members and many thanks!

Traditional Registrar Day at Afnic. picture

Dear Followers, you may be interested to know that 2023 is a VERY SPECIAL year for APTLD as in September, the community will be celebrating the Association’s 25th anniversary. Sacttered through 2/3 of the globe, we are to big to explore at a glance, so from now on, we will be regulalry introducing our Ordinary Members one by one by sharing their brief profiles in the alphabetic order of the ccTLD strings and where possible, interesting facts about them and their operation to display how diverse and versatile our community is.
Today, our first entry is about .AE.
The country code of UAE is managed by The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), an independent public authority established in 2003 under Federal Law by Decree No. 3 of 2003, to oversee the telecommunications sector and all Licensees of the UAE. TDRA’s role is to create an optimal enabling environment in which the UAE Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector will emerge as a leader in the global market place. It works to support and enable the ICT sector in the UAE by safeguarding competition, providing fair access to the domestic infrastructure, and ensuring the optimal use of natural resources through the implementation of best practice in every area.
So, ccTLD management is just a minor part of the TDRA’s mandate.
Interesting facts about the .AE team:
– as a part of the nation’s policy, there is a Happy Customer office at TDRA, and they treasure customers’ feedback;
– .AE has for long boasted the greatest number of registrations across the Middle East
-as well, .AE has recently been a proud record holder by hosting 3 APTLD Members Meetings overall, including a recent meeting relocated to Dubai due to COVID19.
