In the lead-up to #APTLD84, we continue our review of APTLD Members and today, we invite you to Japan to meet Japan Registry Services.
Japan Registry Services Co., Ltd.(JPRS) was incorporated on December 26, 2000, to carry out JP domain name registration and management, and to undertake operation of the domain name system. JPRS manages and administers .JP top-level domain in a fair and neutral manner.
Until 2000, management and administration of .JP top-level domain was carried out by the public organization JPNIC (Japan Network Information Center), with the recognition of the government ministries, as well as ICANN.
However, regarding the management and administration of the .JP top-level domain, where environmental changes are drastic and the service is expected to be fair and efficient, it became necessary to transfer these responsibilities to a private company, in order to satisfy the needs of customers and maintain competitiveness and openness.
In light of this, at the 11th General Meeting of JPNIC held in December 2000, it was decided to create a new corporation that would succeed management and administration of the .JP top-level domain. Based on this resolution, Japan Registry Services Co., Ltd. (JPRS) was established.
JPRS succeeded the responsibility upon receiving formal recognition from ICANN. As a result of the intensive study and discussion among the relevant stakeholders, the Memorandum for the Transfer of Management and Administration of the .JP Top Level Domain (*1) was executed on November 9, 2001.
Operations were transferred on April 1, 2002 upon the formal approval of JPRS as an organization responsible for managing and administering .JP top-level domain through the “JP Domain Name Management and Administration Transfer Agreement” executed between JPRS and JPNIC on January 31, 2002 and the “ccTLD Sponsorship Agreement (.jp)” (*2) executed on February 27, 2002 between JPRS and ICANN.
JPRS actively operates a service in which Internet users in Japan can easily participate in the Internet, by making it possible for individuals and organizations with the presence in Japan to register necessary domain names, For the benefit of Japanese Internet users, JPRS provides registration service for Japanese JP Domain Name. The service was officially authorized by ICANN on 30 June 2003.
In addition, JP Domain Name Advisory Committee, composed of Internet users, academic experts and other relevant experts, was formed to ensure that the management and administration of .JP top-level domain maintains high standards of fairness and neutrality.
With these activities, JPRS is accepted and relied upon as the company that has made Japan’s Internet identity, “JP”, ready-to-use for the Internet community in Japan.
Boasting a total of more than 1,700.000 ASCIII and IDN registrations, .JP is one of the biggest ccTLDs in Asia Pacific , and JPRS regards its registry business as a vital service to the society.

A bit of wisdom from It.com: Investing in UX testing is a decision that can never go wrong.
1.Non-responsive website design is cited as the top reason visitors leave a website by 73.1% of web designers. Poor UX components also include non-intuitive navigation, outdated design, and poorly structured content.
2. UI statistics show that a poorly designed interface can damage a brand, while a good UI can increase conversion rates by up to 200%. With good UX, the increase can go up to 400%.
3. 80% of internet users are willing to pay more for good website UX, including quick loading time, user-friendly interface, and prompt responses.
Poor customer service can result in companies losing $62 billion annually, making UX an essential investment.
Investing in UX testing is a decision that can never go wrong.
