APDN/APTLD Monthly Update – April 2000

1. APTLD Meetings in Seoul, 2000.2.26 – 3.1
There were series of meetings related to APTLD in Seoul as follows;
2000.2.26 Multilingual Names Workshop
2000.2.28 APTLD Domain Names Workshop
2000.2.29 APTLD Member Meeting
2000.3.01 Multilingual Names Session during APRICOT’2000

2. APDN Incorporation
During the meetings, it was decided to rename APTLD to APDN, but keep APTLD
to designate ccTLD activities. APDN is being incorporated now, and will be
completed sometime this spring. As the first step, APDN Bylaws are being
revised by the group headed by Dr. Erica Roberts with help of Dr. Tan Tinwee
and Gita.
3. Multilingual Domain Names Consortium(MINC)
During the meeting, it was decided to form a consortium to spin off APTLD
activities on the multilingual Internet names with APTLD blessing. MINC
BoF was held during Adelaide IETF on March 27. See the meeting summary in
www.aptld.org. It was decided to hold the following meetings for MINC
launching;
2000.5.11-12 Final MINC preparation meeting in San Francisco hosted by ISC
2000.6.5-6 MINC launching in Tokyo during Interop Tokyo
Various WGs are formed, and active participation from APTLD members are
encouraged.
3. Non-Commercial Constituency of ICANN DNSO
Non-commercial Constituency is raising fund of $5000 to cover one-seventh of
DNSO webcasting in 1999-2000. So far $2500 have been raised, half of which
are from AP countries. If you are interested to donate, please contact
yjpark@aptld.org.
4. ICANN Meeting in Yokohama in July
Here is the tentative schedule including APTLD, and MINC.
2000.7.12-13 ccTLD constituency meeting including DNSsec Workshop
7.14 DNSO meetings
7.15 ICANN Open Forum
7.16 ICANN Board meeting
7.17 APDN/APTLD/MINC Multilingual Names Workshop
7.18 APTLD Member Meeting
5. ccTLD Working Groups
Three working groups are being formed at ccTLD Constituency, and active
participation are encouraged.
WG 1 ICANN Services to ccTLD Nii Quaynor(Chair)
WG 2 Best Practice & Delegation Antony van Couvering(Chair)
WG 3 Funding Peter de Blanc(Chair)
It is expected that the arrangement between ICANN and ccTLD will be finalized
at Yokohama ICANN, and we need to finalize the above issues by then.
