APTLD
welcomes the statement by CENTR and the European Commission’s High Level Group
on Internet Governance on the IANA Stewardship Transition and ICANN
Accountability improvement processes.

These
processes are of particular importance for the ccTLD community in Asia Pacific,
with its billions of prospective private and corporate users, whose prime need
is going to be open, uninterrupted and interoperable Internet.

To
this end, we believe that the proposals crafted by Cross-Community Working
Group on the IANA Stewardship Transition (CWG) and the IANA Stewardship
Transition Coordination Group (ICG) have garnered the stakeholders’ support and
should now be adopted and pursued by all the interested parties to ensure a
smooth transition towards an enhanced, consensus-based and meticulously
implemented model.

We
also believe that at this pivotal moment, ICANN should demonstrate wisdom and
leadership in taking the corporation to a new level of accountability and
transparency which would enable it to earn yet a greater support and trust from
all the stakeholders.

We
share the CENTR’s commitment to vigorously contribute to the IANA Transition process
and ensure the upcoming ICANN54 will see a tangible outcome in the form of an
agreed by consensus final submission to, and updated timelines for, NTIA.
