The 79th APTLD Members Meeting and AGM took place online, on 24 and 25 February 2021. Hosted by TRA of the Sultanate of Oman, the .OM ccTLD registry, the Meeting attendance was 140 Members’ representatives and 17 guests representing the global Names community, as well as the Government of Oman.
It became the second virtual APTLD Meeting in a row and built on the success of APTLD78- particularly in regard to the agenda structure and social events.
APTLD79 was traditionally preceded by 2 days of training. They were delivered by the RIPE NCC team and by a US Academic and focused on DNS and routing challenges, and DNSSEC and RPK and social media management, respectively. Both training classes were well attended – nearly half of the registered participants participated in each.
As many as 29 APTLD Ordinary Members and 9 Associate Members attended APTLD79.
The Meeting was held in a single-track mode and featured 8 sessions with over 30 panelists and presenters, to cover the administrative, policy, technical, and security areas, as well as Internet Governance.
For the second time in a row APTLD cooperated with GoDaddy Registry to conduct social activities, including a co-branded photo booth ad an online trivia quiz.
At the closure of the Meeting, the University of South Pacific, the destination of APTLD80, which is Fiji, in September 2021, and the Meeting website at https://aptld80.com.fj/ were unveiled.
At the ensuing Annual General Meeting, Members approved by acclamation the re-elected Board member Ms. Ai-chin Lu (.TW), and elected Board Members Messrs. Ms. Boyoung Kim (.KR) and Messrs. Rajiv Kumar (.IN) and Anlei Hu (.CN. The community thanked Ms. Min Jung Park and Messrs. Alireza Saleh and Qiang Li, the outgoing Board members, for their service on the APTLD Board. The Members also received the APTLD Chair update, approved the 2020 Accounts, selected the APTLD auditor, and commented on the 2021 budget. The Membership also discussed APTLD reincorporation options and indicated a preference for Australia for the jurisdiction of incorporation. Further work will need to be done including putting a full set of resolutions to the members for consideration.
Subsequently, in its meeting held after AGM, the APTLD Board elected Ms. Ai-chin Lu (.TW) as the APTLD Board Chair, Mr. Brent Carey (.NZ) –as the Vice Chair, Mr, Anlei Hu (.CN)- as the Treasurer, and Mr. Erhan Karabardak (.PG) as the Secretary.
