APTLD86 Communique

The 86^th APTLD Members Meeting (APTLD86) was held in Da Nang,  Vietnam, on 17-20 September 2024. Hosted by the VietNam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) with the support of the Da Nang Government, the Meeting gathered over 150 members and guests, including 110 on-site participants, from 31 economies across Asia Pacific, the Americas, Europe and Australia.

The APTLD86 agenda featured traditional pre-meeting training sessions, which were held on-site and delivered by DENIC (.DE), the NeatBeacon Institute, and APTLD staff.

The Meeting attracted a record-number of sponsors, of which Brand Safety Alliance LLC, CentralNic Registry/Team Internet, DENIC EG, NIXI, and it.com were Gold Sponsors and ICANN – Silver Sponsor.

APTLD86 welcomed 4 Fellows from Armenia, Bangladesh, Iraq, and Sri Lanka, of whom 2 were first-time Fellows.

The Meeting was held on and streamed live onto the Association’s own platform thereby once again enabling a meaningful remote participation for the Membership.

The Meeting was conducted in the traditional 2-track mode to discuss both non-technical (policy, administrative, and marketing matters) and technical ones, which were delivered by 77 onsite and remote presenters, with 6 out of 17 sessions conducted in a panel discussion format. Some sessions included live polls on the audience and working in teams. Also, during the Meeting, the attendees were offered a number of brief online surveys to measure the temperature in the room and a dynamic of perception of matters under discussion, as well as to momentarily rate every session for the APTLD Members Standing Program Committee’s review.

Broken into teams, the community further worked on the roadmap, as well as specific steps and projects, to implement the action plan for APTLD’s Internet for All statement. As the first step along the avenue, Members welcomed the signing of an MoU between VNNIC and the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ.

As usual, the Meeting also featured a blitz session with the Fellows to hear their takeaways from APTLD86.

During the Meeting, in their capacity of the APTLD87 host the HKIRC team invited the community to APTLD87 to be held in Hong Kong, S.A.R. on 10-13 February 2025.
