APTLD Board Meeting Communiqué (4 September 2020)

< back to list

On 4 September 2020, the APTLD Board held a regular teleconference meeting and considered a range of matters. A summary of the Meeting is published in this Communiqué.

Review of APTLD78

The Board reviewed the 78th Members Meeting and noted with much satisfaction that it was a success. The Board commended the Membership for their commitment and thanked partner organizations for their contribution to the Meeting and GoDaddy Registry for sponsoring it. The Board also made a number of recommendations to further improve the quality of Members Meetings.

Preparations for APTLD79

The Board received a GM’s update on the matter and suggested the draft APTLD79 agenda be put for the Membership’s review and comments. The Board also set up the deadline of 18 December 2020 to finally decide on the format of the Meeting and on the launch of an APTLD79 Fellowship program.

Consideration of the Kabul Chapter of YIS’s Application for Membership in APTLD

The Board reviewed the application and had a GM’s update on the matter and concluded that the Kabul Chapter of the Youth International Society is a branch of a global youth association involved in a broad range of humanitarian and social activities that fall beyond the APTLD’s scope and mission and that the Kabul YIS Chapter therefore does not qualify for APTLD Membership. The Board suggested GM contact YIS to deliver the Board’s decision and the rationale for it.

Consideration of the .TK Application for Membership in APTLD

The Board considered a GM’s update on the matter and concluded that Telecommunication Tokelau Corporation (Teletok) is the manager and administrator of .TK, the ccTLD of the Republic of Tokelau, as such it fully qualifies for Ordinary Membership, and voted by majority for its accession to APTLD.

Consideration of an Invitation by the Secretariat of the World internet Conference for Founding Membership in WIC

The Board reviewed correspondence and supporting documents from the WIC Secretariat and received a GM’s input on the matter.

The Board noted that WIC is an important platform for the global and regional dialogue on Internet Governance, cybersecurity, international cooperation in the ICT and Internet development area. The Board also noted that GM as an APTLD representative sits on the WIC’s Advisory Council and APTLD’s contribution towards shaping the WIC agenda and outcome documents has been quite significant.

The Board recommended that GM accept the invitation.

State and Execution of the 2020 APTLD Budget

The Board received a GM’s update on the matter and noted with much satisfaction that it is in line with the original projections and suggested a number of recommendations on how to further improve the quality of the fiscal reporting.

The Board also considered a number of other administrative matters.
