An APTLD75 Fellow’s Testimonial by Bill Tomon< back to list
It is difficult for technology managers, ccTLD managers, individuals and public to find time to have face-to-face discussions with knowledgeable people dedicated to the continued stable and secure operation of Domain Name Industries therefore APTLD/ICANN meetings offer this unique opportunity. The meetings also offered variety of sessions such as workshops, open forums and trainings on the development and implementation of Domain Names.
This is my first APTLD meeting and I am grateful to be one of the fellows for the APTLD75 meeting. The fellowship award provided an opportunity for me to discuss face-to-face with other ccTLD Managers on how best .PG ccTLD can learn and benefit from their successes. It was good to finally meet up with representatives from .NZ and .AU whom we share similar challenges.
The two days of training sessions were very informative. Marketing training was excellent as we learn the different strategies in marketing shared by the professionals. However, the IPv6 session was not as interactive as expected since only a few participants have the IPV6 experiences and technical knowledge. In addition to the training sessions, there were ongoing opportunities to discuss technology with experts and professionals from other countries. The best part about this session is getting the opportunity to ask questions and talk one-on-one with experienced ccTLD experts. For me I was more focused on technical sessions and issues that are relevant to my ccTLD at the moment.
I have to say it was great to see so many people coming together with the aim of working together across organizations to drive and share knowledge about Domain Name Industries. It has long been my view that it’s critical for professionals working in this area to share their knowledge and experiences freely and on an on-going basis. Seeing the passion of people in this field when they get together always inspires me and giving such people mechanisms to interact is critical.
Finally, I would like to thank APTLD for the fellowship award. And also extend my sincerely thanks to Mr Leonid Todorov APTLD GM, for his tireless effort and guidance.
